Act Now to Address Discrimination and Improve the Quality of Hospital Care for People With Mental Health Conditions
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is seeking comments on proposed regulations governing inpatient psychiatric facilities and the data they collect related to the quality of care. After many years of advocacy from people with lived experience, their families, and researchers who use these data, CMS is proposing to require facilities to measure patients’ perspectives on their treatment, to ask patients about the social drivers of health, and to include health equity. It is very important that advocates weigh in to support these changes so they are included in a final rule.
