Join Us in Asking the U.S. Senate to Vote Yes on the Kids Online Safety Act!
July 24th, 2024 is the day of action on the Kids Online Safety Act (S.1409), and we are asking you to tell your Senator to vote YES when it comes before the full Senate.
The Kids Online Safety Act, also known as KOSA, requires social media platforms to proactively design their platforms and algorithms with safety and well-being in mind. That means not promoting or exacerbating specific mental health conditions like anxiety, depression, eating disorders, substance use disorder and suicide ideation, or facilitating bullying, sexual exploitation, or the sale of illicit drugs to minors.
Children have died, harmful design practices continue to spread, and lives have been irreparably damaged. In its current iteration, KOSA has received overwhelming public support by over 230 national, state, and local organizations and is cosponsored by 70 members of the U.S. Senate. It is time for the Senate to pass S. 1409 and bring KOSA one step closer to becoming law.
Join us in sending an email to your Senators to urge them to vote YES!
Urge Your Members of Congress to Invest in Sustainable Funding for Mental Health in FY 2024
MHA affiliates are meeting with congressional offices on Wednesday, March 8th, to elevate the needs of individuals on the ground and request funding increases for states and for federal programs that promote mental health and crisis response. We are also seeking additional coverage of peer specialists in Medicare.
Last year, we saw unprecedented investment in mental health programs and services by Congress. But, many officials think they are done. Help us make them understand that one-time funding just won’t cut it.
As our country faces continued impact of the COVID-19 public health emergency, we ask you to send a letter to your elected officials in support of: prevention and early intervention in the Mental Health Block Grant, youth-focused initiatives at the CDC, peer support coverage in Medicare, and 988 operations and education.
Please take action now!
Consider sharing this action alert to your social media accounts to spread the word.
