Congress must fully fund specialized services in suicide prevention and crisis services through the FY 2023 appropriations bills
Funding for a stronger public health response to the mental health and substance use crisis should include significant additional resources for cultural humility and responsiveness, linguistic competence, and the integration of specialized services within the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline network, including its local crisis centers. Congress must support additional investment in these areas through the FY 2023 appropriations bills because there is no health without mental health.
Launching 988 in July should not mean a return to a normal that fails to support people when they are experiencing distress and possibly one of the worst days of their lives.
Congress Must Fully Fund Mental Health Crisis Services
Funding for stronger public health infrastructure should include significant resources for the behavioral health workforce, universal access to the suicide prevention and mental health crises hotline, for local crisis centers, and new funding for a 988 federal-state coordination center at SAMHSA. Congress must support additional investment in these areas through the FY 2022 appropriations bills because there is no health without mental health.
Our communities reopening should not mean that things return to a normal that fails to support people when they are experiencing distress and possibly one of the worst days of their lives.
